Once described as “wonderfully manic” by Patrick James Clement of Parterre, contralto Eowyn Driscoll is quickly gaining recognition for her fearless interpretations and rich, flexible voice. With a range that spans the Baroque to the bombastic, and a mind that delights in digging deep into character and score, she brings both intellectual rigor and emotional immediacy to every role she inhabits—from Bach and Handel to Verdi, Wagner, and beyond. She has appeared in a wide range of New York City venues, from intimate black-box theaters to iconic stages—most notably performing Vivaldi’s Gloria at Carnegie Hall.
In 2025, Eowyn made her Leipzig debut with a solo recital for the Sinfonia Leipzig BackHausKonzert series, with a program that featured Edward Elgar’s lush Sea Pictures and Antonín Dvořák’s evocative Z*geunermelodien, Op. 55. This September, she takes the recital to Nordhausen with Sinfonia On Tour.
Originally from New York, Eowyn relocated to Germany in 2018, bringing her fierce stage presence and nuanced artistry across the Atlantic. Since trading the intensity of New York for the calm rhythm of the German Countryside, Eowyn has found a deeper connection to both nature and the music of the German Romantic tradition and a true love of art song and chamber music.
Her U.S. performances include Azucena (Il Trovatore) with the West Side Opera Society, Zia Principessa with New York Dramatic Voices, and Klytämnestra in a raw, black-box staging of Elektra with Create Opera, directed by Marc Verzatt. She’s also appeared as Gertrud (Hansel and Gretel), The Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Filipevna (Eugene Onegin), and Maddalena (Rigoletto), among others.
As a concert artist she’s performed selections from Bach’s B-Minor Mass, St. Matthew Passion, and the Bach Cantata Geist und Seele (BWV 35), and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
Now based near Leipzig, Eowyn lives with her partner and a small but opinionated cat. When she’s not onstage, you’ll likely find her behind a camera lens, buried in a novel, or threading a needle—her love of sewing, knitting, and cycling keeps her grounded and inspired in equal measure.
